This is Bavaria




• Bavaria is situated in the southern part of Germany.
• It has international borders to the Czech Republic and Austria.
• It‘s Germany‘s biggest province.
• Munich is its capital.
• German Provinces in the neighborhood are „Baden Württemberg, Hessen, Thüringen and Sachsen“.

The Bavarian Alpes  



The biggest range of hills are the Bavarian Alpes.
The highest summit is called „Zugspitze“.
It‘s 2962 m high.


Famous Bavarian Lakes 


         Bavaria has a lot of lakes.
         One of the most famous is called „Königsee“.
It‘s an attraction for tourists.
You aren‘t allowed to drive with motorboats on it. 



"Chiemsee"  is the largest Bavarian lake.
It also is called the "Bavarian Sea".

 Rivers 


The most important river in Bavaria is called "Donau". 
 Another famous river is the "Main"


Most famous Bavarian Castle


Schloss Neuschwanstein 

The castle of „König Ludwig II“.

It‘s nickname is „Fairytale – castle"


Monastery 

 
Kloster Ettal  
          monastery belongs to the benedictines
The monks produce famous liqueurs.
They are made out of herbs.
Place of pilgrimage  











Altötting
The name of this village is „Altötting“.
There you can find an old pilgrimage church.


Flora in Bavaria
All typical plants could be found in our schoolyard

The linden tree has an important relevance on cultural history. 
It often can be found in the middle of a village.

People celebrated, danced, married and judged under the linden tree. 
A famous street in Berlin is called “Under the linden trees”!

 
        
         An old Germanic cult plant: the daisy. Who eats the first blossom after the winter won´t be taken sick this year. 

 
         This is an elder bush. It was considered to be holy. For good luck you never should have cut it.
Bavarian beer



         Most Bavarian people like to drink beer.
It‘s made out of barley, hops, malt and water.

Typical Bavarian food   











         charbroiled „Bratwürste“ in a roll
„Weißwürste“ with mustard
„Brezen“
„Schäufela“ (it is a kind of roast pork)
„Knödel“ (dumplings) are made out of potatoes
all these dishes you have to eat during your Bavarian visit

Franconian wine


 

         In the northern part of Bavaria you can find vineyards.
Franconian wine is a dry wine.
You can buy it in typical bottles.
They are called „Bocksbeutel.


Habits and Customs   

      

On special days Bavarian people like to wear liveries.
The traditional music is music for brass instruments.


Typical fairs



 
There are a lot of  fairs in Bavaria.
The most famous is the „Oktoberfest“ in Munich.
It starts always at the end of September with a pageant.
